Simplify fractions and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on fractions.
Fraction Operations:
Add/Subtract: a/b ± c/d = (ad ± bc) / bd
Multiply: a/b * c/d = ac / bd
Divide: a/b ÷ c/d = ad / bc
Simplify: divide numerator and denominator by their GCD
Find the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) of the numerator and denominator, then divide both by the GCD. For example, 6/8 simplifies to 3/4 because GCD(6,8) = 2.
Find a common denominator (multiply the denominators), convert each fraction, then add the numerators. For example: 1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6.
To divide fractions, multiply by the reciprocal. For example: 2/3 ÷ 4/5 = 2/3 * 5/4 = 10/12 = 5/6.
An improper fraction has a numerator larger than its denominator, such as 7/4. This can be written as a mixed number: 1 and 3/4.
Simply divide the numerator by the denominator. For example, 3/4 = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75.
