Score to Letter Grade
Score Needed on Final
Grade Formulas:
Percentage = (Points Scored / Total Points) x 100
Final Needed = (Target Grade - Current Grade x Current Weight%) / Final Weight%
The second formula calculates the minimum final exam score required to achieve a target course grade.
The standard US scale is used: A (93-100), A- (90-92), B+ (87-89), B (83-86), B- (80-82), C+ (77-79), C (73-76), C- (70-72), D (60-69), F (below 60).
It tells you the minimum percentage score on the final exam needed to reach your target course grade, given your current grade and the final's weight.
A score over 100 means it is mathematically impossible to reach your target grade. You may need to adjust your target or check if extra credit is available.
A negative score means you have already secured your target grade even if you score 0 on the final. You can relax!
Check your syllabus. If homework is 30%, midterm is 40%, and final is 30%, and you have completed all but the final, your current weighted score uses the first 70%.
A B+ earns 3.3 quality points on the standard 4.0 scale. This calculator shows the GPA points alongside the letter grade.
